Match Report - Wilmslow Albion Women v AFC Oldham Reserves, 6th October 2024

Wilmslow Albion 3-1 AFC Oldham Reserves

Albion maintained their 100% start to the season today, under the watchful gaze of our special visitor - Wilmslow Town Council mayor Tim Higgins - winning 3-1 against AFC Oldham reserves! AFC Oldham, who were also unbeaten going into the match, took the lead in the 1st minute after a corner by number 8 and a good shot from number 6, which beat Albion keeper Jada Worthington at her back post.

Undeterred, Albion quickly levelled the scores with an equaliser in the 11th minute, Jessica Bradshaw scoring a goal with a neat finish from inside the area. The rest of the half was relatively level, with multiple shots and corners from both teams and even saw one of the Wilmslow coaches going into the referee's book! But despite some good pressure from Wilmslow, no more goals in the first half saw a halftime score of 1-1, with both teams feeling they'd be well placed to grab the win in the second half.

The start to the second half saw the game develop into a midfield tussle, with occasional shots and corners from both teams but no goals. However that changed in the 76th minute, after a quick substitution from Wilmslow, Jessica Bradshaw had an amazing shot giving the keeper no chance, and scored another goal for Wilmslow, her third of the season, and giving Albion the lead 2-1!

Albion continued to press, and things didn't slow down from here as they forced a number of corners and took a number of shots before Gemma Pestell finished from close range after a mix up in the AFC Oldham defence in the 79th minute, giving Wilmslow a 3-1 lead and seemingly putting the game beyond Oldham.

After this there were a few final shots, corners and substitutions from both teams but eventually the referee's whistle blew and the game finished - 3-1 to Wilmslow - what a result for the Ladies today!

Today’s player of the match - Ciara Marsland!
